感想
After an incredibly difficult traverse of Yari-Hotaka, I wanted to do a "yurufuwa" relaxing Backcountry ski while taking advantage of the good weather. Ahijo posted on Twitter that he also wanted to do something Yurufuwa. I was originally thinking about Renge Onsen, but it seemed crowded and Ahijo had already gone there recently, so we decided to camp near Goryu-Dake and ride A Sawa and B Sawa. Well, one thing turned to another, and we found ourselves on the slightly refrozen 50° chutes of Takedabishi, Goryu's iconic feature. As it was 2pm, the shadows had already turned the corn snow into icy crust, and we jump-turned and side-slipped our way down an incredibly technical, narrow line with the help of drone surveillance (each of us had brought a drone). Without the drones, this line would have been a lot more difficult and risky because it was difficult to check to see how much snow there was in the gullies.
After successfully connecting to A Gully and skiing down 400 vertical meters of partially refrozen snow and Avalanche debris, we were able to Traverse over to a short sunny slope. Our pent-up tension exploded as we skied this short but perfect run before putting on our skins and climbing back to our campsite.
On the second day, we decided to move to the peak and ski the B gully. We got a late starts because we were too busy relaxing in our tent, but after two and a half hours of skinning and alpine-style axe-swinging, we reached the summit. The snow in B Gully had softened up perfectly in the sun, we enjoyed a 900 m descent down to the bottom of the Gully before climbing back up to our campsite to collect our belongings. Thinking that animals wouldn't come up that high, I had left out a pack of dried fruits. Unfortunately, I was wrong, and our campsite showed evidence of a crow attack, with no dried fruits left.
We descended via Ridgeline because the bottom of the gully looked awful with avalanche debris. The Ridgeline was actually quite fun - despite having a few places where we needed to climb, the narrow hiking trail meant gorgeous views and a very exciting descent between trees and footprints.
